Oktoberfest in Cape May
New Jersey Events
Published on September 19, 2016
Anna Marie and I may own some traditional Victorian wear but we won’t be donning it in early October as we see a flood of lederhosen take over Cape May for Oktoberfest! On Saturday, October 1, Historic Jackson Street is transformed into a Bavarian promenade and you’re invited to attend this free festival.
From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., stroll along the street lined with white tents and enjoy live entertainment and perusing the craft and collectible vendors as you sip on a German lager or dine on authentic cuisine. Though I generally recommend trying the excellent brews of our regional craft breweries, I think it’s appropriate to order a German beer during the event – especially if it will encourage you to dance along to the lively polka music.
For more than 20 years, Oktoberfest has been a community festival that’s a bit smaller than some of our events during the high season. So if you’re looking for a more intimate event and the chance to mingle with Cape May locals, Oktoberfest is a can’t-miss. Typically, the weather in early October is in the low 70s and for many years we’ve enjoyed sunny days to celebrate Oktoberfest.
Find the perfect room to return to after a day of Bavarian fun in Cape May and don’t hesitate to ask Anna Marie or I for recommendations of things to do and dining options for the remainder of your stay.
