Cape May Spring Festival
Spring in Cape May, NJ
Published on April 17, 2015
Spring is a wonderful time to visit Cape May; though you’d hear Anna Marie and I say that any time is a wonderful time to visit our shores. But for our guests that prefer to travel when it’s warmer out we’d highly recommend timing your visit with Cape May’s Spring Festival!
Toward the end of April and into the first weekend of May, events are popping up around our city much like our beautiful flowers. This year’s festival runs April 24 to May 3 and next year’s dates have been set for April 22 – May 1, 2016.
You can still enjoy the variety of Cape May activities and attractions that are available year-round, such as the Cape May After Dark Trolley Tour, visiting the Cape May wineries and breweries, or learning about our resident ghosts on the Ghosts of Cape May Trolley Tour.
Events for the Spring Festival include a special Cape May Time Capsule Trolley Tour where characters from Cape May’s past make an appearance to show you what Cape May was like for them during the Victorian era. You may also want to purchase the Murder Mystery Luncheon to save money on these two events. The trolley tour is on the last day of the festival on Sunday, May 3.
Meet with the good doctor during The Doctor Is In at his estate, the Emlen Physick Estate. Dr. Physick will be touring his grounds and talking about life in Cape May on Sunday, April 26 and Sunday, May 3. Dr. Physick is accepting guests to his estate for free and is a fun glimpse into life as it used to be in 1895.
If you wish to do a bit more walking on your tour, try the Dr. Physick’s Neighborhood Walking Tour on Friday, April 24 or Friday, May 1 and walk along historic Washington Street and hear all the gossip about the residents that lived there. This style of gossip doesn’t come free from Dr. Physick and adult tickets are $10.
Though we love showing off our Victorian beauty and discussing the antiques and décor we’ve selected for The Queen Victoria, many of our guests are always intrigued by the other Victorian homes in our city. Get a sneak peek behind closed doors during the Private Homes Tour. This tour does have a limit of 300 tickets for each event on Saturday, April 25 and Saturday, May 2.
After learning what life was like back at the turn of the 20th century, you can return to the present by joining the Winery Cellar Tour & Tasting. Tickets are $20 and include a 90-minute tour and tasting, cheese and crackers, and a commemorative glass. For our guests with a sweet tooth, we’d also recommend the Chocolate Tasting Tour that includes touring some of Cape May’s historic bed and breakfasts and inns.
