10 reasons we’re thankful to live in Cape May

1.     The captivating beach – Of course a major draw to Cape May is its stunning beaches that invite you to relax and lounge on a sunny summer day. I often enjoy taking an early morning walk along the beach to view a beautiful sunrise – it’s a perfect way to start your day around here.

2.     World-class restaurants – If you receive our monthly newsletters, you’ll see that we highlight a favorite restaurant in Cape May and we never run out of restaurants to feature because the city is home to so many excellent options. In fact, to help visitors and locals taste the best of these restaurants the city hosts two Cape May Restaurant Weeks each year (well, a weekend in November). We never tire of dining out around here or visiting our favorite spots for a familiar meal.

3.     Exquisite wineries – Anna Marie and I both love wine, a fact exemplified by our Wine Lovers Weekend and wine blending challenge in February, and the growth of regional wineries is something we’re very excited about. The Cape May region is the perfect environment for winegrowers who in turn bottle perfect vintages.

4.     Historic attractions – You can’t visit Cape May and not notice how well we preserve our Victorian history and architecture. If you love history and exploring historic buildings, you better add Cape May as the next city on your list to visit.

5.     Unique tours – With great coordination by the folks at the Cape May MAC and the homeowners and innkeepers of our city, you can enjoy a delightful collection of tours to learn more about and see more of Cape May. Dive deep into our city’s history with enthusiastic tour leaders.

6.     Abundant activities – There’s no shortage of things to do or see in the city though we definitely recommend setting some time aside to relax on the beach or enjoy a peaceful moment on our front porch with some iced tea.

7.     Wonderful annual events – From the Exit 0 Jazz Fest to Victorian Weekend, there’s always a special event to attend in Cape May. We host regular festivals honoring our music scene, wonderful food and beverages, and to celebrate the changing seasons.

8.     The romantic ambiance – Sunset strolls along the beach or hearing the clip-clop of a romantic horse and carriage ride through Cape May are only the top of the list of why Cape May is such a romantic destination for a getaway.

9.     The distinctive seasons – Though the snowy weather is not my favorite, Cape May does get to experience the four seasons and has fun things to do in each of them. The Cape May MAC also does an excellent job of making the seasons fun with holiday-themed events and activities like the Halloween Happenings or spectacular six week-long Christmas in Cape May.

10. The hospitable people – Cape May is a special place and the people who live and work here know it. We’re fortunate to have such welcoming and hospitable people in our city that make a stay in Cape May that much more magical.
