Start your day with a stroll to the beach to watch the everyday magic of sunrise over the ocean. During the summer and fall, watch for some of the many dolphin that inhabit our waters. After the sun has made its appearance, stroll along the water’s edge looking for shells that have washed up over night. Before long your stomach will probably tell you to come back to The Queen Victoria for a sumptuous breakfast and another cup of fresh brewed coffee.
After Breakfast .
After enjoying the company of the new friends you’ve met at breakfast, take a couple of bicycles from our rack and take a tour of our beautiful 19th century Victorian village. This is one of the most relaxing Cape May attractions you’ll find. As you peddle through town, take in the ornate 1880’s architecture and the beautifully painted gingerbread of the hundreds of Victorian homes throughout America’s first seaside resort. Don’t get too lost in the sights though, you’re sharing the roads with lots of strolling hand-holding couples and horse carriages.
If you’ve worked up another appetite, peddle your bike to the Lobster House for lunch and enjoy the freshest dockside seafood you’ll ever find. Cape May is the nation’s leading scallop fishery, so you might be tempted to start with an order. Don’t order dessert, though, as you’ll be getting all kinds of goodies at The Queen Victoria tea later in the day.
After lunch the shops are calling you. The Washington Street Mall is a quaint three block long stretch of brick paved pedestrian-only street filled with shops, boutiques, antique shops, restaurants, candy shops, ice cream parlors, and taverns. There is a little bit of everything here, so you’ll probably find something you can’t resist.
After all this activity you’ll undoubtedly be thirsty, so a trip to the
Cape May Winery may be in order. Visit their beautiful tasting room and gaze out over the vines. Take the barrel tasting tour for an especially memorable experience. This is sure to become one of your favorite Cape May attractions! Pick up a bottle for dinner, as many of our finest restaurants allow you to “bring your own”.
High Tea .
No day is complete without enjoying the serenity and elegance of high tea at The Queen Victoria. While sipping one of ourmany varieties of iced or hot tea (depending upon the season), sample our many savories and sweets served every day. Mingle with the friends you made at breakfast and make new ones. Compare restaurant picks while perusing the menus of the dozens of restaurants in town. Remember, Cape May is the dining capital of New Jersey, so it’s not an easy decision. Be sure to plan your dinner around sunset. You won’t want to miss watching the sun dip into the ocean at sunset beach (it’s actually the Delaware bay, but it looks like the endless ocean).
The Final Touch .
After a world-class meal in one of our fabulous restaurants, take a romantic moonlight horse and carriage ride through town and discover the charms of the evening in Cape May. As you review the day, you’ll probably discover that as full as your day has been today, you’ve missed out on dozens of other Cape May attractions in town. In fact, you didn’t even spend any time on our beautiful beach! The truth is, Cape May is more of a Perfect Weekend than a Perfect Day.
